Washing Machine Not Filling With Water — Diagnosis Guide
When a washing machine starts its cycle but doesn't fill with water, or takes far too long to fill, the cause is almost always one of five things. Work through this checklist before calling a technician.
1. Water Supply is Off or Low Pressure
The most obvious check — is the tap behind or next to the machine fully open? Also verify that other taps in the house have normal pressure. If Bangalore's water supply is intermittent in your area, the machine may simply not have water to draw from.
2. Kinked or Blocked Inlet Hose
The inlet hose at the back of the machine can kink if the machine is pushed against the wall. Inspect it for kinks or flattening. Also check that the hose isn't bent sharply at the tap connection end.
3. Blocked Inlet Filter Mesh
At the point where the inlet hose connects to the machine's back panel, there is a small mesh filter that catches sediment. In Bangalore's hard water conditions, this filter can block within 6–12 months. Fix: Turn off water supply, disconnect hose, use pliers to pull out the mesh filter, rinse under running water, reinstall.
4. Faulty Water Inlet Valve
The inlet valve is an electronically controlled solenoid valve that opens to allow water in. If the solenoid coil burns out, it won't open. Signs: you can hear the machine trying to fill (buzzing sound) but no water enters. Fix: Inlet valve replacement — ₹400–₹1,500 depending on brand.
5. Pressure Switch or Water Level Sensor Fault
The pressure switch monitors water level and tells the inlet valve when to stop. If the switch is stuck in "full" position (or the pressure tube is blocked), the machine won't open the inlet valve. Fix: Check the small rubber tube connecting the pressure switch — it can collapse or detach. Switch replacement: ₹400–₹1,200.
When to Call a Technician
If steps 1–3 don't resolve the issue, the fault is likely in the valve or pressure switch — both straightforward repairs for a trained technician. Call 7411225242 for same-day diagnosis and repair across Bangalore.
