Washing Machine Not Turning On — Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Before assuming a major fault, work through this systematic troubleshooting guide. A significant number of "not turning on" service calls turn out to be simple fixable issues.
Step 1: Check the Power Supply
- Is the power cord fully plugged in?
- Has the socket's MCB (mini circuit breaker) tripped? Check your main distribution board
- Test the socket with another appliance (like a phone charger)
- Check for a blown fuse in the plug (if applicable)
- Is the power cord physically damaged?
Step 2: Check the Door/Lid
Washing machines will not power on or start if the door or lid is not securely closed. Close the door firmly until you hear/feel it click. Inspect the door seal for obstructions.
Step 3: Check the Child Lock
Many modern machines have a child lock that disables all controls. Check your machine's manual for how to deactivate it — usually holding two buttons simultaneously for 3–5 seconds.
Step 4: Reset the Machine
Turn the machine off at the wall socket, wait 1 full minute, then turn back on. This clears memory errors on the PCB that can prevent startup.
Step 5: Check the Timer/Delay Start Setting
Some machines have a delay start that may have been accidentally set. Check the control panel for any timer settings.
Step 6: Inspect the Power Cord and Plug
Look for visible damage to the power cord — fraying, burning, or cuts. If damaged, do not use — replace immediately (₹300–₹600).
Still Not Turning On?
If none of the above resolves the issue, the fault is likely in the power switch, thermal cut-out, or PCB — all require a technician. Call 7411225242 for same-day diagnosis. We'll tell you the cause and cost before starting any work.
